SEDIBENG.- Banyana Banyana finds themselves in a difficult situation to win their last game against Italy if they entertain any hopes to proceed to the FIFA Women’s World Cup knockout stages.

Banyana Banyana plays against Italy in the last game of their Group G on Wednesday. This game is scheduled to take place at Wellington Regional Stadium with kick-off set for 9:00 South African time. This is a must-win game for Coach Desiree Ellis and her chargers after they played to a 2-2 draw against Argentina on Friday.

Banyana Banyana find themselves in third place in the group with four points and they must beat Italy to qualify for the knockout stages. There are unconfirmed reports that prior to the Banyana Banyana and Argentina game, players held a meeting with the coach pleading with her to start with Andile Dlamini as a goalkeeper.

There are unconfirmed rumours that Dlamini was sidelined due to what transpired before the team’s departure to the World Cup when players protested for bonuses which resulted in them boycotting the international friendly match against Botswana.

Back to Wednesday’s game, the good news is that Banyana Banyana  Captain, Refiloe Jane is available for selection in this must-win game against Italy after she sustained an injury against Argentina. Banyana Banyana were unlucky not to win this game after a great start.

In fact, they were let down by poor defense in both games. However, Desiree Ellis is positive that they will get positive results against Italy come Wednesday. She is expected to make some changes, especially in the goalkeeping department.
