VANDERBIJLPARK. – The death of 40-year-old Jabulani Mdletye, popularly known as Dj China from Bophelong has sent shockwaves through the community. Jabulani’s body was found on Faraday Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark on Sunday, 06 August.
A distraught mother, Busisiwe Mdletye (63) says she last saw her son on Saturday night after supper.
“Jabu came back home after work on Saturday evening, he asked me to dish up for him, and I did. He went to sleep in his shack outside. On Sunday morning I went to check on him, I found the shack locked and the gate was left open. I went back inside the house as I was not feeling well.”
Busisiwe says just after 08:00, paramedics arrived and said they had come to fetch her. I asked them where my son is as I was under the impression that he is at work. They told me to please come with them and drove to Faraday Boulevard where Jabu’s lifeless body lay.
“On arrival at the scene, I saw my son’s lifeless body lying on the ground facing downwards. His face was flat and his complexion had changed. The police wouldn’t let me get close. He was still in his work uniform but it was torn. I also saw a cushion next to him. His cell phone and purse were taken, and his life was also taken.”
The mother says that she is in total disbelief. “I wish that the killers had just taken whatever they wanted from him and just spared his life. Possessions can be replaced but a life can’t be bought. I just want to see the people who killed my son and ask them why they couldn’t spare his life.”
Jabu’s Partner Palesa Setona (39) said that she is hurt by the incident. “Jabu was a good person and he was known everywhere as he loved music and was a popular DJ. He did not deserve to be killed in this manner. We are deeply hurt by what happened.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale confirms that a murder case docket is open for investigation. Makhale states that no suspects have been arrested at the moment.
