Frontline Hyper store faces electricity disconnection and fraud charges

One illegally connected store plunged into darkness, keeps the Eskom debt away.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – As a continuing process in Vanderbijlaprk to enforce credit control measures and recoup outstanding debts, the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) conducted a disconnection operation on Tuesday, April

This time, the operation saw the MMC for Finance and Revenue, Hassan Mosola Mako being part of the team which targeted Frontline Hyper Store, which owes the municipality over 5 million rands.

MMC Mako, was also accompanied by the Acting Head of Revenue, Okgabile Sape, headed the team that executed the disconnection of the electricity supply to Frontline Hyper.

According to the municipality, the action was taken in response to the store’s persistent failure to pay its dues, coupled with providing counterfeit proofs of payment to the municipality.

Additionally, the store was found guilty of illegal reconnections to the power grid, prompting the municipality’s decisive action.

To ensure full compliance and to prevent further infractions, the municipality removed the underground supply cable and fuses from the Store.

Mako said a case of fraud will be opened against the store, highlighting the serious consequences of such actions.

“To ensure that all money due is paid, the municipality removed the underground supply cable and fuses. A case of fraud will also be opened against Frontline Hyper Store. Communities need to understand that there are consequences against such infringements. We are always open to negotiations and as such, the Revenue and Finance Department always encourages consumers to come forth, present their case and make arrangements.” Said Mako.

“We intend to rollout the operation to all consumers who are defaulting on their accounts. For account holders to avoid these credit control measures, we are once again calling upon them to visit our Customer Care Office at the OK Building in President Kruger Street, Vanderbijlpark to avoid disconnections.” Mako concluded.
