Grieving mom: “My daughter died in the hands of those she trusted”

"We were fixing our cars at Pakiso Makhanya's workshop, not knowing he was plotting to kill my child," said the grieving mother of slain teacher.

VEREENIGING. – For the first time since the murder of her daughter on April 05, Palesa Mofokeng’s mom has gathered the strength to face her daughter’s killers.

This comes after Tseleng Mathibela formed part of the packed gallery in the Vereeniging Regional Court flanked by friends, relatives, and ANC members who normally listen to blow by blow revelations.

Palesa Mofokeng’s ex-husband, Dr Tumelo Ntholeng, and his alleged accomplices are accused of orchestrating the murder of a Riverside High School teacher.

In a testimonial which was read out, the court learnt that accused number four, Pakiso Makhanya, a cousin to the ex-husband is the one who hired an alleged hitman, Mzwanele Mazeke to kill Mofokeng.

Sent links to the stories on the outcomes of court and kept abreast on the proceedings by close friends, Mathibela said the implication of Makhanya as the facilitator on behalf of Ntholeng broke her heart.

Tseleng Mathibela addressed the media after the case for the accused to contest the reasons by the prosecution to refuse bail.

“I don’t know Mazeke and Thabethe. I saw them in court today for the first time. The only people I know very well are Ntholeng and his cousin, Tallman. Tallman used to fix Palesa’s car and at some point, he used to help with my car,” she said.

Mathibela said last year, Palesa encountered problems on her way to QwaQwa  when she hit a pothole and got stuck on the side of the road.

“The first person she called was Tallman because he was a mechanic and she used to trust him. My daughter didn’t suspect anything. She also didn’t suspect Ntholeng would one day  harm her,” said the visibly shuttered mother.

The case has since been remanded to Wednesday as Mazeke’s lawyer wasnt in court.

“I met with the defense to establish why one of the attorneys wasn’t in court and they gave a reasonable explanation, thus I moved the court case to 24 April,” said Magistrate Chris Kruger.
