Friend kills man (30) over R111 skoloto

What was meant to be a happy Saturday turned into horror when a 30-year-old man was stabbed and killed in Bophelong Extension 16.

BOPHELONG. – A Bophelong man was killed by his fellow countryman allegedly over an R111 credit over the weekend.

According to eyewitness, the duo had an altercation on Saturday, May 04 while they hanged out together at a local tavern.

Following the argument, the quarrel seemed to be over, until the deceased, Blessing Chirwa followed his murderer to his home where he was stabbed on the chest and arm.

As he tried to flee for his life, Chirwa went to his rented room, where is his life was cut short from stab wounds.

Residents who tried to help injured Chirwa during his incident, live to tell the tragedy.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, eyewitness and close friend to Chirwa, Paul Banda (43) detailed what happened during a midday groove before his buddy’s passing.

“While we enjoyed a young drink with Chirwa and his assailant, the two exchanged words pertaining to what the suspect called skoloto. He claimed that Chirwa owed him R111, and he demanded it. I tried to stop the fight, which both listened, however when the suspect on the matter went home, Chirwa followed him,” he said.

“Moments later, I saw Chirwa passing the tavern running, little did I know he was stabbed,” added the visibly distraught pal.

Another witness in the matter, Thandi Lerutle (39) said when she jumped off a taxi coming from Sebokeng, Chirwa was screaming for help.

“I approached the man as it was partially dark. When I got to him, I could identify the injured person as Blessing. He was heavily bleeding, so I opted to scream for more help, calling for other neighbours for alert,” she said.

Failing to bare the pain, Blessing jumped the wall at the rented place, as a way to find refuge for help.

“The man was losing a lot of blood, and at some point, he couldn’t continue to contain the heavy air. He passed out, and I knew that he was no more,” she said.

Ward Councillor Nkosinathi Ndwandwe said he was called to the scene, where he helped call the police and emergency services.

“The community was furious and wanted the man to be arrested, so they handed in the man who stabbed and killed Blessing,” he said.

Vanderbijlpark police spokesman Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu said a case of murder was opened and a suspect has been arrested.
