VANDERBIJLPARK – The mother of kidnapped two-year-old Kutlwano Shalaba allegedly gave birth in police custody.
Ster has always been at the forefront of Keneilwe Shalaba’s case since the news of her toddler being kidnapped came to light.
In November Keneilwe was arrested for allegedly trafficking her son, Kutlwano (2), and then lying to police that the child had been kidnapped.
She has been charged with human trafficking, conspiracy to commit crime, and perjury.
While Kutlwano is still missing, Keneilwe bail application has been underway at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court where she cited her pregnancy with twins among reasons for bail.
According to sources close to the investigation of Keneilwe’s case and Kutlwano’s mystery disappearance, the 32-year-old mother gave birth to one child earlier this week.
“We learned of the news sometime last week [this week]. We were informed that Keneilwe’s judgment wouldn’t proceed because she had given birth,” said the source.
Ster has sent media inquiries to the department of correctional services on the matter.
Sedibeng Ster reached out to the Department of Correctional Services on the matter, spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said “The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is not at liberty to disclose personal information regarding specific inmates, including childbirth or medical conditions. However, we do provide information on the number of infants in our facilities, though this does not extend to details about individual cases.”
Meanwhile, the State opposed her application with police further raising concerns about the safety of the unborn children.
The mother of four remains in custody with her newborn at the Sun City Correctional Centre.
Her bail judgment was due to be handed down tomorrow but may be postponed as Shalaba recovers.
