SASOLBURG – Afrika Mayibuye Movement President Floyd Shivambu made a stop in Sasolburg on February 12 as part of his Free State provincial verification tour.
Shivambu, who was flanked by members of his national executive committee, including Vaal’s popular Archbishop Zondo, packed out the Zamdela Community Hall. During the tour, delegates such as the party’s Treasurer General, Tshepo Mahanuke, Secretary General, Sphephile Mahlaba, among many others, addressed the gathered supporters who were in party regalia.
They sang and chanted in celebration of their new political home. Speaking to Ster after the gathering, Shivambu said the visit formed part of a nationwide drive to assess and consolidate party structures.
“We came as the leadership to conduct verification of the leadership structures in Fezile Dabi. Yesterday we were in Mofutsanyane, and later we will be in Lejweleputswa,” he said.
The outspoken leader revealed that the party’s Free State tour will stretch beyond Fezile Dabi, with stops planned for Mangaung and Thabo Mofutsanyane districts.
“We are in the process of visiting all provinces to verify the existence in our organisation. It’s so far so good because in all areas, we have got meaningful presence, especially since we are a new organisation,” he added.
Afrika Mayibuye Movement, now six months old since its launch in September last year, appears eager to make its mark ahead of upcoming political contests.
Shivambu believes the growing numbers signal public hunger for change.
“This shows that the people of South Africa have been waiting for such a movement to come. In Fezile Dabi, we are carrying huge potential, and we just have to consolidate on the work we are busy with. We will save the people of this district, particularly the local municipalities in Metsimaholo, Mafube, Ngwathe and Moqhaka,” he said.
Shivambu has a plan to give the people of the Free State a responsible and corruption-free government.
“We want people in this province to be exposed to an accountable government which will prioritise service delivery and provision of basic services,” he said.
Shivambu engaged the gathered crowds who were gathered in their party t-shirts. During his address, he emphasised the criteria they are targeting for their preferred candidates.
“We want councillors who will work for the people – corruption-free individuals dedicated to providing services. We are looking for people who are known in their communities. You won’t be our councillor if your community doesn’t know you and you don’t fight for them,” he warned.
Singing and chanting were the order of the day as members of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement concluded their session.
