Sethabela’s charity drive brings joy to Sharpeville kids

Kent Sethabela celebrated his birthday by giving back to the Sharpeville community, treating 350 Tsoaranang Primary School pupils to fresh hairstyles, school shoes and stationery.

SHARPEVILLE – Radioman Kent Sethabela, known for making children smile, has once again helped boost the confidence of Tsoaranang Primary School pupils by giving them new hairstyles.
This year, the initiative started with a motorcade that drove from Evaton Mall to Sharpeville.

The motorcade dubbed ‘Driving for a good cause’ saw members of various vehicle clubs and biker clubs create awareness about the importance of safe road practice and adhering to the rules of the road. The convoy was escorted by members of the Emfuleni Traffic Department.

Upon arrival at the school, a series of activities unfolded, filling the grounds with energy and excitement. A performance from young maidens was the highlight of the day, bringing ululations and celebrations. Various speakers directed positive messages at pupils, urging them to work hard and remain respectful at all times.

Each year on his birthday, Sethabela gathers people from different industries to give back to the community through his charity drive. A tradition of the event is that each child in attendance gets their hair done on the day. Sethabela believes that through this action, children are made to feel loved and valued.

As a form of giving back, Dolphin Girls, Emoyeni Entertainment, and Usizo Thuso Stockvel donated school shoes and stationery to the disadvantaged learners. Various clubs also brought gifts, which they shared with needy children.

Approximately 350 pupils received fresh hairstyles, with girls getting braided and boys receiving fresh haircuts. All the hair products used on the day were sponsored by Be Beautiful Hair.
The day fostered a spirit of ubuntu, highlighting the importance of unity among members of the community. Speaking to Ster North, Sethabela thanked all the stakeholders for making the day possible.

“I am grateful to all the people who made this day possible and for assisting me in planting a positive seed in the lives of all these children. I want them to know that they are valued, despite their background.”

Sango and the team from Sharpeville SAPS handed out pamphlets and created awareness about different issues plaguing the community. The day was concluded with lunch and refreshments for all the guests present.
