Scores of young people and job seekers gathered at the Rothdene Town Hall in Meyerton for the launch of the ProFession Career Portal

MEYERTON – The Rothdene Town Hall was buzzing with enthusiasm from scores of young people and job seekers who attended the ProFession Career Portal launch on June 15.

The launch targeted young people from and around Midvaal. During the launch, attendees were able to create profiles on the portal with the help of friendly ProFession team members.

ProFession is a free platform that connects job seekers to businesses and available opportunities. Through the portal, people can register their profiles and CVs to get information about available vacancies.

The Director Alois Desmet says they are trying to bridge the gap between people actively looking for jobs at various companies. He said that the launch is in Ward 3, but will eventually be carried out through all Midvaal and Emfuleni Local Municipality wards.

“This portal will assist in making information available. Many people also need skills development. We will also be bringing NPO’s that offer skills development on board so that people can acquire the skills for the vacancies that are available on the portal.”

Many young people looking for opportunities attended the launch. It also attracted young people who are currently in tertiary institutions. They stated that they do not want to wait until they finish school to look for jobs.

“We aim to look for internships while we are still in school so that we get an opportunity to experience what the job market requires and which opportunities are available.”

The event was graced by Midvaal Local Municipality Mayor Peter Teixeira, who addressed young people. Teixeira encouraged the youth to seize opportunities to better their lives. Sharing a lighter joke, he told them he wants them to get employment so they can pay rates and taxes.

Desmet said the portal was not created to gain profit but for the sole purpose of community upliftment. He said it is not limited to young people but also accommodates professionals looking for better employment prospects.

The entire team thanked those who attended for their commitment to community upliftment and growing the local economy. For more information, go to https://profession.org.za./.
