VUT students robbed at gunpoint at student housing
It is alleged that the perpetrator cut open the fence to gain access to one the male residences situated at the back of the premises.
BEDWORTH PARK.- In a statement the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) said 8 students were allegedly robbed at gunpoint at a student housing at Bedworth Lake.
“The Executive Management has noted the unfortunate incident that took place on July 17 at approximately 22:30 at the Bedworth Lake residences.”
VUT’s Kediemetse Mokotsi said the students were robbed of cell phones, laptops and clothing items.
It is alleged that the perpetrator cut open the fence to gain access to one the male residences situated at the back of the premises.
“The affected students did not sustain physical injuries and receiving psychosocial support from the VUT Counselling and Support Department.”
The institution urged students to always be vigilant and report suspicious movement to the security personnel at their respective residences.
“The university management will press upon the external accommodation providers to strengthen their security patrols to protect the lives of our students.”
