teachers.
The event took place in Falconridge, Vereeniging and was attended by both former teachers and students (class and schoolmates).
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Lebeko Madikgetla who was behind this initiative with his wife Dibuseng (Madikgetla) said the main aim of
the event was to show appreciation and gratitude to the surviving Jordan High School teachers who taught them between 1982 – 1985.
“We pride ourselves in having learnt at a prestigious facility built by Charlotte Maxeke, a veteran of the liberation struggle who valued education. It is a great pleasure to celebrate them while they are still alive even though others are no longer with us. These teachers played a huge role not only in education but in our lives as young people by then. It was great to see some of those teachers who taught us gracing this event including some of our schoolmates. It was down to memory lane as we reflected back to the time when we were students at this historical school. This is a school with a rich history and as former students we will continue to celebrate this legendary school.
The school has produced academics, professors, teachers, politicians and leaders. I want to thank these former teachers and schoolmates who honoured our invitation to spend the day with us,” said Madikgetla.
Some of the former teachers who attended the event were Esther Tshabalala, Cynthia Mokgoera and Thalitha Ngake. Some of the former schoolmates who also honoured the invitation include Koos Mahlatsi, Jonas Diale, Maureen Thafeng, Teacher Mphuti, Thalitha Radebe and Emily Motshoeneng.
Madikgetla said that they spent the day reminiscing about the past experiences with each teacher and the value they added to their
lives as both teachers and parents.
Madikgetla said they intend to make this an annual event in honouring the former teachers.
