Bike rides, because being a pensioner is boring
Long-time friends, former colleagues, the group of pensioner bikers ride together for the fun of it.

SASOLBURG. – Biker clubs abound in the Vaal Triangle, but then you find the Old School Bikers Social Riding Club. They are not an official club with rules and regulations, but a group of pensioners who regularly take the road together.
“We have to change the time. It’s boring on pension,” jokes Rassie Erasmus. Everyone in the group is old friends and has been riding together for years. Mostly Wednesdays.
Whoever is available falls in at 09:00 and then chooses their course in a direction. Some days Paris, other days as far as Potchefstroom or towards Vaaldam.
There was the time when they went to Petrus Steyn and the wind blew like that. “We all got drenched that day,” recalls Johan Grobler.
Everything is not just always for their own pleasure. The men also have a big heart for the community and go out of their way to help where they can.
There was the time they collected money to buy a specific saddle for a blind girl who did equestrian sports.
Last year they were involved in the funeral of an MS sufferer, Rinette Broers, in Sasolburg. Then there is the big Blanket Drive that they undertake every winter with the help of, among others, the Centurions MC Vaal club.
At the event, they collect food, clothes, blankets and even stationery to be distributed by the FF+ among the needy. The Blanket Drive usually takes place in June at Sharky Town.
Individuals who wish to donate blankets and the like can contact Rassie on 082 458 3785. Another highlight on their annual calendar is the annual Toy Run.
Most of the men are army veterans and they try to get involved and help as much as possible.
For them it’s about the weekly outing, the visit with old friends, the good food and if they can also help others, it’s the icing on the cake for the pensioner bikers.
