AfriForum: Drinking water ‘clean’ and ‘safe’
The warning sent out by the Emfuleni Local Municipality about contamination of the drinking water apparently does not apply to Vanderbijlpark itself, but to Beverly Hills, Sonderwater, Graceland, Palm Springs, Lakeside, Zone 3, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8, Small Farms, Evaton, Evaton North and Evaton West.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – AfriForum says Vanderbijlpark’s drinking water is “clean and safe”.
This follows after the Emfuleni Local Municipality notified residents of Beverly Hills, Sonderwater, Graceland, Palm Springs, Lakeside, Zone 3, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8, Small Farms, Evaton, Evaton North and Evaton West last Easter weekend that the drinking water in these areas may have been contaminated due to a sewage discharge line which apparently collapsed.
However, AfriForum says that the civil rights organization Rand Water regularly tests its water with the help of independent laboratories and that Vanderbijlpark’s water is clean and safe.
“The water is clean and safe. The warning about the pollution does not apply to residents of Vanderbijlpark itself,” AfriForum said in a statement on Facebook.
“ELM’s lack of responsible water management is the cause of this mess. Sewage is allowed to flow freely into our extremely valuable water resources because pumping stations are not maintained. AfriForum strongly condemns ELM’s total lack of accountability,” the civil rights group said in a statement.
AfriForum appealed to residents not to spread rumours, false or unverified information.
