Something positive for the Vaal
After four months of hard work, two of the four record attempts were successfully achieved during the “Rocking the Vaal” event.
VANDERBIJLPARK. – “The GTCOC is here to serve our area, our community. We strive to act as a buffer between businesses and local and provincial government.

Our aim is to promote the economy of the Vaal and be the voice for small, medium, and large businesses,” states Mr. Jaco Verwey, President of the Golden Triangle Chamber of Commerce (GTCOC). Recognising the need for positive community engagement, the GTCOC conceived a plan that not only involved the community but also benefited the Vaal. They decided to attempt setting four new Guinness World Records with the goal of putting the Vaal back on the map. After four months of hard work, two of the four record attempts were successfully achieved during the “Rocking the Vaal” event held at the Emerald Casino on Saturday, March 16.
In addition to breaking two world records, almost 10,000 potjiekos meals were enjoyed by less privileged Valies. Scarves were also donated to those in need of warmth for the approaching winter months.
The Guinness World Records attained are as follows:
– The largest serving of Potjiekos stew, weighing 2,794 kg.
– The longest crocheted scarf, measuring 35,520 m.
“We are truly blessed and humbled by the overwhelming support of the community, which enabled us to achieve these remarkable accolades,” concluded Verwey.
