“Just Sam” and Tbu Twiz!

"It has been a great 10 years for us in this industry and we are still going to be strong."

SHARPEVILLE.- There is no way you can talk about Vaal without mentioning the township of Sharpeville.

Sedibeng Ster had an exclusive interview with the two talented artists from this historical township. Samuel “Just Sam” Mokhele and Teboho “Tbu Twiz” Mphuthi are the local boys living their dreams in the music industry.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, these two exciting rappers revealed that they have established their Group Level Up Records record label to take their music to another level outside South Africa. To make it interesting, the two told Sedibeng Ster that they have a partnership in the US, with a New York-based record company that will be officially launched soon. This was also confirmed by Sedibeng Ster by Joint Creative, Oratile Maduna who facilitated this interview.

The duo, Mokhele, and Mphuthi, told Sedibeng Ster that it has been their dream to make a name for themselves in the music industry and recognised internationally.

Samuel “Aka Just Sam” Mokhele.

Their love and passion for music started at an early age but little did they know that they would become household names.

They come from the township with so much history, politically, academically, sports, and entertainment to mention but a few. This is the same township where former South African President Nelson Mandela signed the constitution in 1996.

“Just Sam” rose to fame with his unique blend of Sesotho and English captivating audiences with his masterful storytelling and compelling lyricism. He is renowned for his ability to seamlessly weave between languages while delivering hard-hitting narratives and has solidified his place in the vibrant tapestry of South African hip-hop.

His partner, in music, “Tbu Twiz” is an established, dynamic, and conscious South African Hip Hop lyricist, born and bred in Sharpeville, who embodies the spirit of his hometown in every verse. His music journey began with a triumphant victory in a local talent competition which ignited his passion for crafting recording, and performing his music.

Alongside a childhood friend, they collaborated and co-founded Ground Level Up where they came up with verses resonating with authenticity and finesse, painting vibrant colours of township life through their art.

“We are young people with the ambition to make a difference in our community with our talent. We believe in our talent to touch’s people lives through our music. Look, as much as we are rappers but versatile too. We do many things under our Ground Level Up Records like projects among other things. We have been inspired by many artists locally and internationally and we want to thank them for their contribution to our life, especially music.

“It has been a great 10 years for us in this industry and we are still going to be strong and we want to achieve more. We want to tour the world, especially seeing our partnership with the US record company. New York will be our first destination. We grew up in Sharpeville and we want to be an example to young people even though our upbringings were not easy,” they told Sedibeng Ster.
