Discipline and pride thrive at TS Bounty

VEREENIGING. - The TS Bounty unit of the South African Sea Cadets is situated alongside the Vaal River and not only keep youth of the streets over weekends, but enhance self-discipline and leadership.

The South African Sea Cadets, TS Bounty unit in the Vaal, has been in existence since 1949 and is
a voluntary, self-supporting organisation that trains youngsters from the age of 12 years until they complete matric.

It is an extramural maritime activity with all training based on seamanship.

“We encourage the youth to enhance self-discipline, responsibility, leadership, and citizenship. The programme helps keep kids off the streets on weekends and develop confidence and pride,” says Lt. Wendy Cooke.

The TS Bounty unit is situated alongside the Vaal River in Vereeniging.

“Training is done on Saturday afternoons, and we normally have planned weekend camps for more in-depth training,” says Lt. Cooke.

They are a non-profit organisation and, therefore, are always in need of assistance from the community.

Thankful to have their boat back at the TS Bounty base in Vereeniging.

They would like to thank Renscorp Truck and Trailer for recently assisting them in bringing back one of their boats that is used for training.

“One of our boats has been sitting at the Yacht Club in Deneysville since 2022. We could not bring it back to our base after our trailer was stolen,” explains Wendy.

Renscorp Truck and Trailer came to their rescue and fetched the boat. “We would like to thank Mr Frank de Witt for his generosity, it means a lot to our cadets as rowing is a huge part of our cadet training.”

If there are companies in Vaal able to assist the cadets with any form of donations, please contact Lt. W. Cooke at 082 441 5238.

Their base was vandalised during the Covid period, and they are in the process of refurbishing it.
