MooiVaal journalist’s cellphone hacked
“Your hustling boyfriends are out there hacking our numbers and texting our contacts for money. Please be advised, my cellphone number was hacked but I sorted the mess.”
SEDIBENG.- It is that time of the year when people fall victim to scams and crime.
MooiVaal Media journalist Sifiso Jimta is one of the people whose cellphones were hacked this past weekend. Sedibeng Ster has learned that many people’s cellphones has been hacked. As if this is not enough, MooiVaal Media retired journalist, Lazarus Dithagiso’s phone was also hacked.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Jimta said he became suspicious when he didn’t receive calls as always and he contacted the service provider. He told Sedibeng Ster that the person who hacked his phone sent messages to his friends and colleagues asking for money. When he arrived at work on Monday, one of MooiVaal Media’s senior personnel informed him (Jimta) that she received the message from the scammers who pretended to be Jimta.
Jimta said fortunately those who received the message asking for the money didn’t fall victim.
“I knew something was wrong with my phone and I was right because when I called the Vodacom service provider, they found that my phone had been hacked. Just imagine people using my name to ask for money from people that I will never ask money from. The good thing is that those people know I wouldn’t ask them for money. They also became suspicious and thanks to God no one fell for this scam. I was quick to act,” said Jimta.
On his WhatsApp status, Jimta said, “Your hustling boyfriends are out there hacking our numbers and texting our contacts for money. Please be advised, my cellphone number was hacked but I sorted the mess.”
Sedibeng Ster warns its readers not to fall victim to this scam, especially at this time of the year.
