Woman’s body found in Sharpeville

The boyfriend was found dead in Qwa-Qwa.

SHARPEVILLE. – An inquest docket has been opened after the body of a 39-year-old woman was found in a shower in Rooisteen Section, yesterday Tuesday.

It is said that her landlord found her body after she had not been seen since Sunday.

Police spokesperson, Captain Teboho Lephoto said that police were called to the scene and were shocked to discover the body, that was starting to decompose in the shower. Lephoto added that during their preliminary investigation, it was learned that the woman was last seen alive on Sunday, January 5, with her boyfriend.

When the Sharpeville police followed up on the information and tried to locate the man, they discovered that he had left the area, heading for Qwa-Qwa, Free State. Through their counterparts in the Free State, the local police learned that the man (boyfriend) was also found dead yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

“A similar case has been opened by Free State authorities. Sharpeville police will work together with their counterpart in the Free State to determine the connection between the two cases,” said Lephoto.

“Paramedics were called and declared the woman dead at the scene and the body has been taken to Sebokeng mortuary.”

It is alleged that the boyfriend killed the deceased before packing his bags and leaving in the early hours of Monday morning.

Speaking to VUT FM’s Oupa Sefatsa, the landlord, Lovey Ramagaga, said the woman was Prudence Nkosi whose colleagues came looking for when she did not report for work. Other tenants said they had last seen her with her partner on Sunday and that she could have possibly left with him.

Ramakhakha said that a colleague of the boyfriend came to his house on Tuesday to inform them that the boyfriend was found dead in Qwa-Qwa.

“I took a duplicate key of the tenant’s room and immediately when I opened it, I was met by a horrible smell. Going to the bathroom I was met by the woman’s body and I could not stand the scene,” the landlord said.

Ramakhakha described the deceased as a humble soul.

“I am saddened by this. We are hurt, she was like a family to us. We have closed the room and are waiting for her family that will arrive on Wednesday,” he said.

The deceased is said to have been working at a fast-food store in Riverside, Vanderbijlpark, and was from Kwa-Zulu Natal. She had been living in the area for a long time.
