VEREENIGING – The National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB) in the Sedibeng Region welcomes learners, educators, and members of the SGB in the new academic year.
During an interview with Ster North, the association’s Secretary Thabiso Radebe highlighted the importance of supporting 2024 matriculants, who are expected to receive their results.
“We are appealing to learners to remain calm regardless of the outcome of their matric results. Those who may not have garnered expected results are urged to take advantage of the Department of Basic Education’s second chance program to improve their results.”
Speaking to those who have done well, Radebe urges them to ensure psychological readiness to face university life and work hard to make their academic dreams come true.
Touching on school readiness, the NASGB urges all schools to ensure that there are enough resources for teachers and learners to make the year ahead fruitful.
“We urge the SGB leadership elected in various schools to ensure they are ready to serve the schools with dignity and respect. Self-empowerment is important as it will allow them to grow in their role.”
The association further highlights the importance of parent’s involvement in ensuring their children’s behaviour is in accordance with the school’s code of conduct.
“Schools are sacred public places that prohibit any public violence, carrying of dangerous weapons, political partisans, and mobilisation. Disruptive behaviour in any form is discouraged. Any person or group found actively involved in disrupting education will be prosecuted in line with the South African law.”
The NASGB emphasises that all educators, learners, and SGB members should always feel safe inside school premises without compromise.
