Inaugural community radio awards celebrates excellence in broadcasting

The Community Radio Awards will honour stations, programmes, and individual contributors who have gone above and beyond in promoting community engagement, social justice, and local storytelling.

SEDIBENG. – Amid funfair, Boitumelo Media is thrilled to announce the inaugural Community Radio Awards, set to take place in April.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Motseki Mabuya, Boitumelo Media’s founder said that this prestigious event aims to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of community radio stations and their dedicated personnel. According to Mabuya, community radio has long been a vital source of information, entertainment, and cultural expression, serving diverse populations and providing a platform for underrepresented voices.

The Community Radio Awards will honour stations, programmes, and individual contributors who have gone above and beyond in promoting community engagement, social justice, and local storytelling.

Key Highlights of the Event:

– Awards Presentation:

Categories will include Best Community Program, Outstanding Volunteer, and Special

Recognition, among others.

– Networking Opportunities:

Attendees will have the chance to connect with fellow broadcasters, sponsors, and

supporters of community media.

“We are excited to launch these awards to shine a spotlight on the incredible work being done,” said Mabuya who concluded that, “These stations play a critical role in connecting people, fostering dialogue, and enriching our culture. It’s time to celebrate their achievements.”

Nominations are now open and can be submitted online at admin@boitumelomedia.co.za (The audio submission should be 6 min long) including a profile of the presenter, a profile of the show, and written motivation for your submission. Deadline for entries is February 28 at midnight and nominations will be announced at the end of March.

Winners will be determined by a panel of esteemed judges from the media sector.
