GPL member continues local schools’ visits

“The community is impatiently waiting for the new school under construction to be completed."

SEDIBENG.– Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) member Thulani Kunene continued with the GPL’s programme of visiting local schools and evaluating their readiness, challenges, and needs.

Last Friday, Kunene, together with local ward councillor Billy Mogoro, visited Lebohang Secondary School in Boipatong.

The school has 1 028 learners and 700 of those learners are part of the school nutrition programme.

“The school is affected by social factors such as gangsterism, unemployment of parents, and average parental involvement. These factors are negatively impacting school performance. We agreed with the stakeholders that a meeting would be held on February 20 to develop an action plan. We will follow up on the implementation of that plan throughout the year,” Kunene said.

Kunene had earlier in the week visited Rus-Ter-Vaal Secondary School to assess the construction site of the school. The school was built using asbestos, and the process of removing it is ongoing.

“The community is impatiently waiting for the new school under construction to be completed. We hope construction will be finished by the end of June,” he said.

At Mohloli Secondary School he congratulated the staff and learners. The school was established in 1975, which means it is celebrating its 50th year.

Kunene’s visits have taken him to Sehopotso, General Smuts, Tshepo-Themba, and Sizanani Secondary School since shools opened in January
