SEBOKENG.- Lack of sporting facilities in Golden Gardens has come under scrutiny from one of the community members.
Chere Mosia, who is a resident of Golden Gardens, believes that there is a serious need to have sporting facilities in the area. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mosia said the children in the area have nowhere to play because there are no sporting facilities.
For example, Mosia said that for these children to have access to playing fields, they must walk a long distance to the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that there is a big open space where the local municipality can build the sports field.
However, Mosia said the municipality can negotiate about privately owned open space for the sake of the children.

“Look, there are a few soccer teams in the area, but they have nowhere they can train or play games because there are no sports facilities here. This is very strange because in most communities, there is a sporting facility. It is sad, because one day I was driving from Evaton to my home and I came across many young people. I stopped and asked them where they came from. They told me they came from Evaton, where they were playing a soccer tournament. To make it worse, it was late in the evening, and they were walking. I gave them a lift because I was driving a bakkie. I tried to engage relevant people and stakeholders here in Golden Gardens, but with no success. There is even a soccer team that trains on the road,” said Mosia.
To date, there is another promising soccer team in the area called Vaal Golden Gardens Sports Academy.
The team is one of the best soccer teams in Sebokeng, but unfortunately, they don’t have proper training fields, and they have to travel to the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre for training purposes, especially during the week.
