Vaal cyclist Percy Lepamo will embark on a cycle tour from Sebokeng to Lesotho in September. Through this initiative, Lepamo aims to bring change in his community by raising funds geared toward service delivery issues, which include resurfacing roads and closing potholes.
“I am doing this to assist the community. I have seen the dire condition of some of our roads. This includes mushrooming dumping sites as well as sewage problems.
“Instead of protesting, my team and I will hand over a memorandum to Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) on our way to Lesotho with various issues the community faces. This is our way of approaching things differently.”
Lepamo said they are not fighting with ELM but merely asking for a partnership to bring more services to the people. Lepamo highlights that his ride for service delivery has been sparked by the current deteriorating state of various areas in the ELM.
“I have also been working on a plan to approach businesses in the Vaal to help fix our roads. They should pour into the community because it is the same community that supports their growth and their businesses.”
Currently, the number of people who will be embarking on this journey is less than 10. Lepamo is currently looking for more people to join him in his cycle tour for change. Previously, Lepamo has cycled from Sasolburg to Bloemfontein on a different course. He states that he has always aimed to use his passion for cycling to bring a positive change in his community.
He urges anyone interested in being part of or sponsoring his upcoming tour to contact him on 073 915 5572.
