SASOLBURG – The DA has won the by-election held on July 9 in the Metsimaholo Local Municipality, securing victory with 60% of the votes.

DA candidate Henk Human has been elected as the new Ward 14 councillor.

The by-election followed the resignation of the previous DA ward councillor, Frans van der Merwe.

The Electoral Commission (IEC) started the counting process soon after the voting stations closed at 21:00 yesterday.

Human received 757 votes, followed by the Freedom Front Plus with 376, the ANC with 142, and KAM with seven votes.

Voter turnout was below 35%.

“Thank you everybody who came out to vote on July 9, it’s much appreciated. I trust that we will work well together to make a big difference in Ward 14,” said Human.
