Armed robbery at Riverstone Mall in Meyerton

All five or six suspects were reportedly armed with firearms.

MEYERTON – A group of armed suspects struck at Cash Crusaders in the Riverstone Mall on Tuesday morning, but fortunately no one was injured.

According to Constable Nomphumelelo Zazini, a police spokesperson for the police in Meyerton, the incident occurred at 10:41 on August 26.

An unknown black male entered the shop and pointed a firearm at staff, instructing them not to make any noise.

Shortly afterward, five additional suspects entered the store. Two of them held a staff member hostage while others proceeded to take cellphones from the shop. Among the items stolen was a Nova 13 smartphone belonging to a customer.

All five or six suspects were reportedly armed with firearms.

At this stage, the total value of the stolen property has not been determined.

Police in Meyerton have launched an investigation into the incident, with role players including the Local Crime Rapid Response (LCRC), the TRIO task team, and the Meyerton standby detective involved.

No injuries were reported during the robbery. The case has been registered as a business robbery.

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the suspects or the stolen property to come forward. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest station.
