SEDIBENG. – The historic MTN8 showdown between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch will take place at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on September 13, with kick-off set for 18:00.
The decision to stage the final in Mpumalanga goes against the wishes of MTN8 ambassadors Lucky Lekgwathi and Brent Carelse, who had hoped Durban would host the clash, keeping the final in KwaZulu-Natal Province.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport during the MTN8 Trophy Tour’s recent visit to the MooiVaal Media offices, both legends acknowledged that KwaZulu-Natal offers a unique vibe and atmosphere for such a much-anticipated event. However, Mbombela Stadium, famous for its giraffe-inspired roof and zebra-striped seats, has successfully hosted three major football cup finals in the past.
This track record made it a natural choice for PSL and MTN8 organisers.
This match is a repeat of last year’s final, in which Pirates defeated Stellenbosch 3-1.

Soccer fans nationwide are expected to pack the zebra-striped venue once again, eager to witness the action firsthand.
Both teams earned their spots in the final after impressive victories over Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United, respectively. For Orlando Pirates, this marks a historic fourth consecutive appearance in the MTN8 final. However, this time around, it is not going to be a walk in the park for Pirates with Stellenbosch also eager to add their name to this MTN8 trophy.
Sedibeng Ster Sport has also learned that the MTN8 Trophy Tour will visit the Vaal region ahead of the final to rally local soccer fans.
