SPV strategy a critical step toward strengthening water and sanitation delivery
"A call will be opened by the customer and closed by the customer. Technology is there, and will be rolled out."
VANDERBIJLPARK.- Last Friday marked the final day of the 5-day SPV strategic sessions on the official launch of the 100-Day Action plan of Rand Water, in partnership with Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), and the World Bank.
This forms part of the introduction of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for Water and Sanitation Services in Emfuleni.
Inspired by the Ignition Week Programme, this action plan represented a critical step toward strengthening water and sanitation delivery in the region. Serving as a 100-day precursor, the Action Plan, it is said, will guide the transition toward the establishment of a dedicated Water and Sanitation Utility by Rand Water Services and the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).
This initiative has already received the endorsement of the Minister of Water and Sanitation and the Minister of Finance, underscoring its significance at both local and national levels. Maubane Mahlare, Managing Director of Rand Water Services, Tumi Mochawe, MMC for Public Works, representatives from the World Bank, Metsi a Lekoa, and the municipality also visited the Sebokeng Waste Water Treatment Plant as part of the programme.
At a media briefing, Mahlare announced that Rand Water has revolutionised water services in the country and that the company is bringing its tools of trade into the SPV deal.
“Employees of Rand Water will be on the ground, that is the promise to the community.”
Mochawe said, “SPV is our solution; we are grateful to Rand Water for coming on board.”
SPV is a merger between Metsi a Lekoa and Randwater, a new entity that will be responsible for water and sanitation in Emfuleni.
“This is a marriage that will help us to be better people. Professionals will be brought into the public sector from the private sector. Rand Water is a very professional entity. We are going to fix all the small matters, leaks, and all. We are bringing in technology to fix commercial and infrastructure. We are bringing in professionalism; all calls can now be logged to Rand Water. A call will be opened by the customer and closed by the customer. Technology is there, and will be rolled out,” Mahlare announced.
