Chippa United walks with maximum points

The home team eventually got rewarded when they found the back of the net, but the visitors “died” with their boots on, defending their lead.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Chippa United walked away with maximum points when they beat Sekhukhune United 2-1 in the DSTV Diski Challenge fixture at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.

Despite chilly weather, there were a handful of soccer fans on the stand who came to support their respective teams, with the majority of them being NWU Vaal and Vaal University of Technology (VUT) students. The visitors, in this case Chippa United, started the game like a house on fire, forcing the home team to defend with their back against the wall.

They were rewarded for their hard work when they took the lead within 10 minutes of the game.

They kept on piling pressure on Sekhukhune’s defense, and again, in error from the goalkeeper, Chippa took a 2-0 lead. After this goal, their goalkeeper was stretched off due to injury after colliding with Chippa United’s goal scorer in an attempt to make a save. However, the
score is not the true reflection of the game.

The home team created enough chances to level the matter but failed to convert their chances into goals, much to the frustration of the bench and supporters. The game could have gone to the interval with the score 2-2. It was a two-halves game with Sekhukhune United looking better than in the first half.

They came into the last half of the game with purpose. In fact, they looked like a completely new team than in the first half. The soccer fans went home entertained. The home team eventually got rewarded when they found the back of the net, but the visitors “died” with their boots on, defending their lead.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune will welcome Siwelele FC at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.

COACH WORDS: Morgan Mammila: It wasn’t an easy game for us because we were up against a good team. But we had a game plan to score two quick goals and force them to chase the game, and this worked to our advantage. We knew that they were not going to sit back, especially after we scored those two goals.”
