Awareness Campaign on Joint Stakeholders Responsibilities

SEBOKENG.- Different stakeholders held an awareness campaign at the Maranatha Church in Zone 13,Sebokeng on October 21.

The event was aimed at addressing the rights of the community members, their active participation as citizens of South Africa, and the importance of partnership with the Government entities.

The stakeholders included the following:

– SAPS
– Gauteng Department of Community Safety
– Gauteng Provincial Legislature
– Emfuleni Public Safety
– Gauteng Consumer Affairs
– Community Policing Forum (CPF)
– Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD)
– MASP
– Indibano
– GBV Brigades
– Ward Committee
– NGO’s
– Community Members

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that the above-mentioned Stakeholders emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy partnership between the police, other Departments, and the community.

“Mr Prince Kubheka from the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (Public Participation and Petitions Unit) emphasized the importance of community policing and patrols. He further educated the community about GBVF and their rights as specified in the Constitution of the RSA. Mr Happy Lethoba from MASP encouraged men to speak out as silence is a slow killer,” Mokhachane said.

From Sebokeng SAPS, the members encouraged the public to report any illegal activities and lawlessness that is happening in their respective neighborhoods.

“The Station Commander’s contact numbers were also shared with the community members as they alleged that they prefer to share information with the Brigadier, because they trust her. They tabled out their concerns about the Police vans that are always standing off at the Somalians/Ethiopians tuck-shops. Their complaints and compliments to Sebokeng SAPS were noted and will be shared with the Management. They appreciated the Station Commander for her open-door policy and her speedy response to their pleas.”
