Police visibility intensified
Roadblock enforcement yields over R19 000 in fines and multiple arrests in De Deur
DE DEUR – Police in Sedibeng activated a road block on the R82, yielding a total of R19 150 worth of traffic fines issued to non-compliant motorists. This was during the recent launch of the festive season Operation Shanela, geared towards eradicating lawlessness in the De Deur policing precincts.
Police spokesperson Constable Mampho Mahlomola reports that the operation yielded positive results, adding that suspects were arrested for various crimes.
“The operation was carried out in conjunction with various stakeholders, including the Department of Community Safety, Gauteng Traffic Department, Midvaal Traffic Department, Home Affairs, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Siyabangena Patrollers, and the De Deur Youth Crime Prevention Desk.”
Orange Farms SAPS Station Commander Brigadier MJ Manamela, in his welcoming address, emphasised the importance of members aligning themselves with the policies and standing orders of the organisation when executing their duties.
Brigadier Manamela further advised the members present that when executing duties, they must be cautious of their surroundings and be safe while addressing the crime in the De Deur area.
Reporting on the success of the operation, Mahlomola says seven suspects were apprehended for having illicit drugs, and two suspects were also arrested for selling liquor without a license or relevant paperwork or documents.
“Furthermore, 45 undocumented persons were arrested for being illegal in the Republic of South Africa, with 15 of them hailing from Mozambique, 17 from Malawi, 10 from Zimbabwe, and three of them hailing from Lesotho.”
Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukhwevho attended the community engagement held at Waterdal. There, Mukwevho addressed members of the community and addressed various issues and concerns they raised. Mukwevho hailed members and stakeholders for a successful operation carried out.
