Sedibeng Jukskei Indigenous Team finished 3rd
“I challenge parents to encourage their children to participate in these indigenous games because there are a lot of opportunities."
SEDIBENG.- The Sedibeng Indigenous Jukskei Team has done the region proud by finishing in third place at the recent Gauteng Seniors Tournament.
The event, which celebrates traditional sports handed down by our forefathers, was held at Jukskei Park in Boksburg over the weekend.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Head Coach Joseph Manzi expressed his pride in the team’s performance and the growth of the sport. Following their impressive display, the Sedibeng team has been selected to represent Gauteng at the South African National Seniors Jukskei Academy Championship. The national event is set to take place in Kroonstad from February 23 to 27.
The players who were selected to represent the Gauteng Team are Dimakatso Motaung, Thoko Sibeko, Nthabiseng Mphuthi, Brandon Phiri, and Fresh Shabangu. Manzi said he does not doubt that the above-mentioned players will make Gauteng proud.
Coach Manzi is convinced that they will bring home a trophy if their weekend performance is anything to go by.
Manzi is urging parents to encourage their children to participate in these indigenous games, as he believes these sports offer the same benefits and opportunities as other sporting codes.
“I challenge parents to encourage their children to participate in these indigenous games because there are a lot of opportunities. The coach took a moment to thank the parents. He gave special mention to those who used their own vehicles to ensure the players got to the venue. As the Sedibeng Jukskei Indigenous Team, we want to thank you for your generosity. I don’t think we could have managed if it weren’t for your support,” he concluded.
