Bashi does it for the love of animals

His calm approach and firm yet humane methods have helped many pet owners develop disciplined, balanced dogs.

SEBOKENG.— Cabanga ‘Bashi’ Xoba has become a respected figure among animal lovers in Sebokeng and surrounding communities, where his dedication to dog training and animal welfare has spanned more than a decade.

Having begun his journey in 2012, Xoba has steadily built a reputation as a skilled and compassionate dog trainer. His work focuses not only on obedience training, but also on fostering deeper understanding between animals and their owners.

His calm approach and firm yet humane methods have helped many pet owners develop disciplined, balanced dogs.

“I believe animals respond best when they are understood and respected,” Xoba said. “Training is not about control, but about communication and trust.”

A committed vegan for the past three years, Xoba says his lifestyle reflects his broader philosophy of compassion toward all living beings. His passion has also taken him beyond his hometown.

He has contributed his time and skills at several animal shelters, including facilities in Viljoensdrif in the Free State, where he recently worked with rescued animals at a local shelter to help improve their behaviour and chances of adoption.

Beyond hands-on training, Xoba has set his sights on education. He is now leading a community initiative aimed at educating young people about animal care, responsibility, and welfare. His school outreach programme brings practical knowledge and inspiration to learners, encouraging compassion and responsible pet ownership from an early age.

“I want to pass my experience to the younger generation,” he explained.

“When children learn to respect animals, they grow into adults who value life and responsibility.”

Xoba is not alone in this effort. He works alongside a team of veterinary professionals from Vereeniging who support his school talks by providing expert insight into animal health, safety, and welfare. Community members and schools have already begun expressing interest in the programme, recognising its value in promoting humane treatment of animals and building stronger community awareness.

With years of practical experience, a growing educational mission, and strong partnerships with veterinary experts, Xoba continues to make a meaningful impact — one dog, and one student, at a time.
