Awareness campaign promotes vigilance in the community

Police in Meyerton have intensified crime prevention efforts, with Constable Nompumelelo Zazini leading a community awareness campaign to keep residents informed and vigilant.

The police are continuing to make progress in promoting effective policing in the Meyerton precinct.

Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, the local social crime prevention officer, headed a team of officials and community partners this week to ensure residents stay informed and alert.

The day kicked off with visits to community radio stations. Constable Zazini used the airwaves to warn the public about several pressing issues, including safety preparations for the upcoming cycle tour, dog poisoning incidents, theft, robbery, and murder.

Meyerton SAPS and local stakeholders distribute pamphlets in the CBD, warning residents about criminals posing as prayerful helpers targeting job seekers.

A specific warning was issued regarding a white Volkswagen Polo carrying two men and one woman.

“The trio tricks the community by pretending to pray for CVs belonging to job seekers, but instead of helping, they use the distraction to rob the person of all their valuables,” Zazini explained.

The campaign moved to the CBD, where officers handed out more than 50 safety leaflets. The community was sensitised about the importance of protecting their personal documents.

“We further urged citizens against false prophets, scammers, and against talking to strangers,” Zazini concluded.
