Parliamentary oversight in Emfuleni
“Today’s session allows the Select Committee to assess progress, and ensure that interventions are making a real difference for Emfuleni residents.
VEREENIGING. – The Parliamentary Select Committee, last week, concluded its oversight visit to the Leeuwkuil Wastewater Treatment Works in Vereeniging.
The oversight visits by Parliament’s Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Public Administration to Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) to monitor water and sanitation challenges in the municipality.
“A formal stakeholder engagement continued at the Emfuleni Municipal Parlour, focusing on the implementation of Section 63 of the Water Services Act. The Committee is (also) conducting an oversight visit on the implementation of Section 63 of the Water Services Act in Emfuleni Local Municipality.”

The ELM further said that Section 63 is the intervention by national government to help stabilise water and sanitation services in the municipality, focusing on infrastructure, supply reliability, and accountability in water delivery to your taps.
“Today’s session allows the Select Committee to assess progress, engage with leadership, and ensure that interventions are making a real difference for Emfuleni residents. We remain committed to regular updates and fixing our water challenges together.”
Key stakeholders included SALGA, political parties, organised labour, and the business sector and other community stakeholders are expected to share their views and contribute to discussions on strengthening water service delivery in the municipality.
