Operation Prosper nabs 20 illegal immigrants
A joint SANDF-led Operation Prosper crackdown in Sedibeng resulted in 20 arrests, multiple fines, and the seizure of illicit goods and a firearm during targeted patrols and inspections.
A joint operation targeting illicit mining activity and criminality in Sedibeng District garnered positive results after 20 illegal immigrants were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act on April 29.
The operation was carried out by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) together with Solomon Mahlangu Regiment’s Bravo Company members.
This was part of Operation Prosper, a national government initiative where the military supports the SAPS to combat serious and organised crime, gangsterism, and illegal mining in high-risk areas.
During the operation, officers carried out targeted stop-and-search activities on both vehicles and individuals. The team conducted inspections on tuck shops and patrolled hotspot areas.
The operation was geared at enhancing safety across the district, with teams visiting multiple townships to reinforce law and order and ensure community security.
In a statement, the SANDF revealed that the team issued 41 traffic fines worth R26 500 to motorists.
“Officers seized several cartons of cigarettes, estimated to be worth R6 500, along with a 9mm Norinco Pistol and its magazine containing eight rounds, valued at R2 000.”
The team issued Liquor Act fines totalling R1 500 and seized alcohol valued at approximately R2 500 from targeted locations.
SANDF has reaffirmed its commitment to combating criminality in communities, in support of the SAPS.
