SEBOKENG.- The community of Zone 20, Sebokeng, has raised concerns regarding the lack of service delivery in the area.

Community members told Sedibeng Ster that crime is rife due to broken high-mast lights, roads are not in a good state, and sewerage spillages are the norm.

Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) mayor, Hassan Mako, has been busy with community restoration projects, and the community of Zone 20 wants to be included.

Community member Siphiwe Masengeni said, “We, the residents of Zone 20, have a high volume of issues in our community. We demand that the mayor explains why Zone 20 doesn’t have any service delivery.”

The Afrika Mayibuye Movement national organiser, Patrick Sindane, said this is the same ward where they did the ‘people’s inspection’ and personally delivered the petition to the office of the former ELM mayor, Sipho Radebe.

“I made a follow-up a month ago with the new office, but still, there is no answer,” Sindane said. The petition called on ELM to urgently:

• Repair and rehabilitate damaged roads in Zone 20.
• Provide clear timelines for infrastructure upgrades.
• Improve stormwater drainage systems.
• Engage directly with the affected community regarding long-term solutions.

“The suffering of our people cannot continue while public representatives remain comfortable in offices,” said Sindane.

ELM spokesperson, Makhosonke Sangweni said, ” The Executive Mayor is Criss-crossing to deal with all of these matters, ward by ward, working with all service delivery departments.”
