SEBOKENG.- Emotions ran high with tears of joy as the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) Evaton South Branch hosted a moving candlelight ceremony for the Matric Class of 2026 at Tshepo Themba Secondary School on October 1.

Ten schools gathered for the special prayer and candlelight service to wish learners the best in their upcoming final National Senior Certificate examinations.

The invited schools included Khutlo-Tharo, Mopholosi Secondary, Thandukwazi Secondary, Tshepo Themba, Tshepong Secondary, Kgokare Secondary, Esokwazi Secondary, E.D Mashabane Secondary, Tokelo Secondary, and Jordan Secondary School.

Organised to honour the dedication, hard work, and resilience of the matriculants, the event centred around the theme: “Your Future is bright, keep the flame of excellence burning.”

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, SADTU Evaton Branch representative Manthethe Tsotetsi explained that the ceremony was designed to stand in solidarity with the students as they prepare for their finals.

She said that the candlelight represented hope, guidance, courage, and the light of success that the community wishes to shine upon every learner throughout the examination period.

“This was a moment to encourage learners to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies, despite the challenges they may face. We lit each candle to serve as a renewed commitment to excellence and a reminder that every learner has the potential to achieve their dreams. May the light of these candles illuminate the path of the class of 2026 towards success,’ Tsotetsi concluded.

In addition to the main event, Tsotetsi shared that the union also visited Elshaddai to hold a candlelight service for the Grade 12 boys camp to further pledge their support.
