The moral of the story here is that Orlando Pirates’ success is due to Vaal players.
Stats don’t lie!
For example, Phiri Tsotetsi was one of the Vaal players who achieved great things with this club, notably the CAF Champions League trophy. This was a huge success not only for the Pirates but also for South Africa. However, the same cannot be said about their arch-rivals, Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs seem to be the only PSL club that doesn’t believe in Vaal players.
This is despite promoting some of these youngsters from their development structure. They end up being either loaned to other teams or released.
But having said this, Abia Nale was one of the few players who stayed longer at the club, but he was also released under controversial circumstances. This was despite him being one of the best players. Before wondering what Zakes’ Sports Corner is up to, here is the reality: Pirates look set to be crowned the Premier League champions at the end of the season, thanks to Vaal players.
Relebohile Mofokeng and Tshepang Moremi have been instrumental to the Pirates team. These two come from Vaal and, to make it even more interesting, from the same hometown, Sharpeville.
These two are the best players in PSL at the moment, and everyone is talking about them.
Chiefs must learn from Pirates to believe in Vaal players, and they will see the results.
As things stand, Chiefs are blowing hot and cold, with the club’s faithful gatvol with the performance. Just like Pirates or other PSL teams, Chiefs must consider Vaal players. At the moment, Naledi Hlongwane is the only player from the Vaal, but the boy struggles to break into the first team. This is despite him being the best player for the Chiefs DDC team and even being selected for the Carling Black Label Team.
He produced a man-of-the-match performance when he scored a brace against Magesi in the exhibition match.
Chiefs were quick to promote him to the senior first team after he was in demand with many PSL teams interested in his signature.
Sadly, he is back to Chiefs DDC.
