Pirates might end Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance – Lekoelea
Every game Pirates play will be like a final.
SEBOKENG.- Former Orlando Pirates darling Steve ‘Chippa’ Lekoelea believes that his former team stands a good chance of being crowned the Betway Premier League champions at the end of the season.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Lekoelea is convinced that Pirates will snatch the title from Mamelodi Sundowns.
They should win all three remaining games…
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that Pirates stand a good chance of being crowned the champions if they win all three of their remaining fixtures.
The Mighty Buccaneers are second on the Betway Premier League with 62 points, while Mamelodi Sundowns, who happen to be the defending champions, are at the top of the log with 65 points.
However, they played a larger number of games (28), while Pirates played 27 games. For example, if both teams win all their remaining fixtures, goal difference will decide the winner. Pirates stand a strong chance of being crowned champions, unless something changes.

Pirates will be away from home against Magesi at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
If they win this game, Pirates will be at the top of the log based on goal differences.
Lekoelea said every game Pirates play will be like a final.
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that for Pirates to be crowned the league champions, they must score points. He dedicated the Pirates’ success to three individuals who stood out for the club throughout the season: Oswin Appollis, Evidence Makgopa, Tshepang Moremi, and Relebohile Mofokeng.
The teams’ success is a collective effort
However, despite singling out the above-mentioned players, Lekoelea was quick to point out that the team’s success is a collective effort. He is confident that Pirates will end the dominance of Mamelodi Sundowns, who have dominated the domestic league for the past seven years.
“Pirates must make sure they win all the remaining games. They have a good advantage in goal difference. It is not going to be easy because some of the teams that they will play against are fighting against relegation,” said Lekoelea.
The Premier Soccer League will play its last games of the season at the same time for obvious reasons.
Pirates’ remaining fixtures:
May 9 – Magesi (away)
May 16 – Durban City (home)
May 23 – Orbit College (away)
