SEDIBENG.- While many believe that Bafana Bafana are destined to head home early, Zakes’ Sports Corner remains optimistic that our boys will force their critics to eat humble pie this Thursday.
Zakes’ Sports Corner is not going to join those choirs who criticise the coach!
A large number of people believe South Africa will not progress past the group stages following the performance against Mexico in the opening match of the Fifa World Cup 2026. However, Zakes’ Sports Corner refuses to join the chorus of critics slamming the coach.
Make no mistake, it was a poor performance by Bafana Bafana standards, especially given the immense talent within the squad. Yet, there is a good reason to reserve criticism for Coach Hugo Broos.
As previously stated in this column, the players themselves must take the blame for the defeat. It is not a matter of who starts the match, but who wants the victory more on the world’s biggest stage.
A change of attitude is desperately needed!
Playing in the world cup is motivation enough, offering players a prime opportunity to showcase their talent on the global stage. It is simply a matter of selling yourself and showing the world your God-given talent.
Forget about any incorrect tactics applied by the coach. Bafana Bafana could have done much better as a team. The players failed to seize a golden opportunity to show the world what they are truly capable of achieving.
Despite this setback, Zakes’ Sports Corner still believes Bafana Bafana stand a good chance of going beyond the group stages in this global tournament.
What is required is a change of attitude!
Zakes’ Sports Corner challenges the Bafana Bafana players to go out there and leave a lasting legacy for themselves and their country.
As a nation, we still believe they can win both remaining games and progress past the group stages. It is not over yet. Everyone needs to come to the party, especially those who will be given the huge responsibility of starting against Czechia.
No player went to the world cup to be babysat!
They are there to compete against the best in the world, and to compete against the best, you must be the best.
