Nkosi brings Girls 4 Girls to Vaal

VAAL-TRIANGLE. - Having experienced the beauty of mentorship and how it can develop you as a young woman, 16-year-old Zandile Nkosi is bringing the Girls 4 Girls (G4G) programme to the Vaal.

G4G was founded in 2016 by a group of graduate students at the Harvard Kennedy School. Nkosi was part of the G4G programme as a mentee in April 2021.

Nkosi says, “The founders recognized that in every corner of the world, something is holding women back from leading. Inspired by each other, they decided to bridge the gap.” Nkosi explained that G4G uses Mentorship circles to teach and support young girls in various communities worldwide.

“G4G groups are anchored in workplaces, schools, universities, neighbourhoods and other community spaces. They are local learning and support communities for small groups of promising young women, led by accomplished woman leaders. The programme also enhances sisterhood amongst young girls.

“This is something I am passionate about because I have personally seen and experienced the power of women working together. I have learnt that the validation and affirmation that comes from being seen by another person is what makes sisterhood so powerful.”

Nkosi said that she has taken upon herself to bring the programme to the Vaal. “I would like my fellow sisters to experience what I experienced while learning more about themselves. The beauty of actually following your dreams and being confident about it is impeccable.

“We are looking for girls aged 15-19. The girls who are interested are encouraged to write an essay of 150-200 words telling us about themselves and why they would like to be a part of this initiative. Successful applicants will then be shortlisted for an interview with myself and my team.”

Interested young girls can contact Nkosi via email on zandinkosi162@gmail.com and via WhatsApp on 0614703720. Entries close on September 31.
