The police in Meyerton and local community stakeholders have teamed up to raise awareness about crime prevention, gender-based violence, and how important it is to support victims.

This crime prevention awareness gathering took place at the God on Earthly Church and brought together groups like the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, the Midvaal Local Municipality, a public information officer, and victim support workers from the Agape Lerato Community Centre.

Important police officials attending the event included domestic violence co-ordinator Warrant Officer Seipati Mohlapholi, Sector 1 manager Constable Millicent Jelani, and social crime prevention co-ordinator Constable Nompumelelo Zazini.

During the gathering, guest speaker Charmaine Leotlela from the Department of Community Safety discussed the hardships women face, shared a Bible scripture, and encouraged women to support each other while trusting God and following His guidance every day.

Jelani emphasised how vital it is for the community and various organisations to work together to create safer environments. She urged the community to speak out about challenges they have with crime in the area, stating that the SAPS is always there to assist.

Zazini added that gender-based violence and femicide are still very common in South Africa.
“This needs all intervention strategies and all stakeholders to work together to do better,” she said.

Finally, representatives from Agape Lerato explained the emotional support services offered at the Meyerton Victims Friendly Room. They encouraged women who need help to reach out to them.
