Harmony Hill is still home to four-legged pets

Harmony Hill will celebrate being open for 19 years this month.

Harmony Hill Animal Hotel and Rescue Haven‘s doors are very much open – and still taking in rescues.

Penny Taylor not only runs pet boarding kennels but also an amazing rescue mission called Harmony Hill Rescue Haven, catering for abused, abandoned, unwanted and neglected dogs.

Harmony Hill – is what the name suggests – a place where all the animals live harmoniously together on a pretty hill inland from Sea Park.

It will celebrate being open for 19 years this month.

Most recently, Penny had an unusual pet boarder.

Although Henry had four legs, he is not a cat nor a dog, but wait for it… a much-loved domesticated goat.

Henry is a handsome house pet who lives in Tweni. He sports a soft, pure white coat and loves to snack on macaroni and a long list of vegetables, grass and leaves. He also enjoys relaxing on his owner’s couch.

Behind the scenes, Penny still helps to rescue and rehome dogs with the help of Courtney Maiden.

Just last week, Penny took in Rosy and her two puppies, Toffee and Fudge, which were threatened with a fate worse than death as Rosy grew a liking to killing chickens.

She also has rescues Stella and Bella, who are both looking for homes. Stella is a pretty foxy-looking dog, and little Bella is a bundle of puppy fun.

Penny says she is faced with the daily challenges of people moving homes and not making provisions to rehome their pets if they can’t move with them.

“It is no good giving rescue organisations 24-hour notice when you knew you were moving a month ago,” she said.

She also stressed the importance of spaying your cats and dogs.

“Please don’t tell me you want your dog to experience having a litter of puppies. One litter can consist of eight to 12 puppies, and it is extremely difficult to find homes for them all.”

Penny said it is also important to make sure your animals are up-to-date with their vaccinations against rabies, parvo or distemper.
