What a waste of water

Thousands of litres gushed from the burst pipe.

THOUSANDS of litres of water went to waste on the D440 road near Skogheim on Tuesday this week.

A local spotted a burst pipe at around 2pm. According to the resident, it took about an hour to get hold of the Ugu Call Centre.

She finally got through, obtained a reference number and was told that someone would attend to it.

At about 4.20pm she received a call from Ugu stating that someone would be there within an hour. No one came out. About two hours later another call was made to Ugu, only this time the staff member did not know about anyone coming out and seemed unable to do anything.

All this time water continued to gush out. It was eventually fixed at 8pm, six hours later.

A motorist who also came across the scene asked who would pay for the loss of water. “Why aren’t staff from Ugu working during the day?” asked the motorist.

An attempt to obtain a response from Ugu regarding the problem was unsuccessful.
