Doll’s house to be raffled

Jenny Dickson graciously offered her time to build the house for hospice and immediately started the mammoth task.

MADE with the greatest of love, Jenny’s House is a beautiful doll’s house which is being raffled to raise funds for South Coast Hospice’s Tree of Light event.

The miniature furniture, and attention to detail, makes Jenny’s House truly an exquisite piece to admire, or in this case…win.

Gauteng couple, Martin and Odette James, opened their hearts to hospice in January this year. They contacted hospice volunteer Caryl Peatt and, with her help, initiated the doll’s house project.

The couple’s only requirement was that the house had to be built to raise funds for hospice’s annual Tree of Light event. Every festive season, a Tree of Light is erected at the Southcoast Mall. It is an international hospice symbol of love and remembrance.

For a small donation an individual, organisation or business will be able to light a symbolic lamp on the tree in memory of a special person who is no longer with us. Many people light lamps in memory of beloved pets. Others simply light a lamp to honour South Coast Hospice.

Jenny Dickson graciously offered her time to build the house for hospice and immediately started the mammoth task.

Mrs Dickson began the project which required both skill, dedication and attention to detail. She carefully constructed every piece of furniture and positioned them in the interior of the house. The project certainly wasn’t for the faint-hearted.

Sadly Mrs Dickson was diagnosed with cancer and was unable to complete the doll’s house. She lost her battle with cancer and died on June 25 this year.

Jenny’s friend and tutor, Dot Donaldson, offered to complete the project on her behalf and, three months later, Mrs Donaldson brought the completed doll’s house to South Coast Hospice.

The doll’s house is now known as Jenny’s House.

It will be on display at Ramsgate Stationers at the Southcoast Mall until December 24.

You can purchase a raffle ticket from Ramsgate Stationers for R5 per ticket or at the Tree of Light table at the Southcoast Mall.

Tickets can also be purchased at South Coast Hospice, situated on 29 Connor Street, Port Shepstone. Call hospice at 039 6823031.

The draw will take place on December 24 at 3pm.
