Drive in, donate blood … and save a life

A local car dealership is seeing 'red'.

SMG South Coast is hosting a BMW On Call Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 11 between 10am and 3pm at its showroom in Shelly Beach.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) will be in attendance. SANBS said that while blood levels are stable, the need for blood is, unfortunately, always prevalent.

Research shows that around 36 percent of blood that the SANBS collects, is used for women who lose blood during childbirth and gynaecological cases, as well as for paediatric cases like surgery on infants, children, adolescents and young adults.

One unit of blood can save up to three lives. If a single person donates blood four times a year, this can save up to 12 lives.

The dealership challenges all other local vehicle dealerships and corporates to participate in the blood drive. SMG has incorporated saving lives by donating a pint or two as well as ‘saving’ motorists with its new BMW On Call Service that is operational 24/7 during a breakdown or emergency this festive season. Motorists can contact this fast mobile service at 0800 600 777.

SMG is excited about this innovative iniative, helping make a difference in the lives of many individuals in health care, safety and caring for their vehicles. Interested donors may schedule appointments by contacting Carisca van Vuuren at 039 315 0020 or emailing Carisca.vanvuuren@bmwdealer.co.za.
