No power, no business

Some businesses were forced to close their doors because of the power cuts.

ORIBI Plaza businessmen say business was slow this weekend because of the power cuts. Some say they even had to close their businesses for the hours during which they didn’t have electricity.

“This is the busiest time of the year, we would expect the municipality to make proper provision that the power is on,” said one angry businessman.

“During the weekend the power was on one hour and then out the next, and this was very bad for business, because we had to close our doors and wait until the electricity was back on,” he added.

A lot of restaurants and banks were also forced to close their doors because they had no power. Another businessman said customers wouldn’t come into her shop, because it was too dark. “I had to close my shop the whole time which is really bad for business,” she added.

“There was an electrical fault that was identified at the Oribi Plaza area. Our electricians were busy on-site on Monday morning replacing a faulty fuse,” said Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s spokesman Simon Soboyisa.

“As far as we are aware, the power has since been restored. The Marburg area experienced electricity outages on Friday last week due to a faulty connection, and the problem was resolved on the same day,” he added.

He added that if there are any residents or businesses which are still without power, they should contact the HCM’s Electricity Department at 039 688 2089/2091 urgently.

“We do apologise for any inconvenience which may have been caused by the outages, and will continue to monitor the situation,” he concluded.
