SIX men appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court last Friday on charges of murder and attempted murder.
The men, Robert Dladla (71), Siyanda Dladla (20), Sphamandla Gumede (25), Sihle Gumede (27), Sandile Lubanyana (20) and Asanda Mazubane (19), are believed to have murdered Busani Nzama (16) and attempted to murder another 16 year-old.
The group accused the two teenagers of stealing liquor from an outlet in Murchison, and then allegedly assaulted them with sjamboks and sticks.
After the assault, family members were called to fetch the boys. Nzama died in hospital. The other teen remained in hospital for a few days but has since been released.
Mazubane was denied bail because of previous robbery charges against him.
The other five were released on bail of R1500 each. The case has been postponed to February 14, 2014.
