‘Why are illegal connections tolerated?’

If the photographer can see it, why can’t the police and Eskom?

DEAR Editor,-

I was thinking this morning as I turned off the tap to conserve water whilst brushing my teeth. There we are, heavily taxed, paying for everything, water, electricity and so on, and yet when I drive through the township here in Nzimakwe, I see taps left running and water flows unchecked down the roads.

I conserve electricity by switching off all unnecessary lights and only use the air conditioner when I must. I don’t use the oven and have a gas stove-top. I suffer through load-shedding and am anticipating another electricity price increase!

So, how do the people who connect their electricity illegally get away with this? How? With so many photos of illegal connections posted in the media, surely if the photographer can see it, why can’t the police and Eskom?
