What Dineo is, and what she most definitely isn’t

Strange explanations about who or what the tropical storm is popped up everywhere.

TROPICAL storm Dineo has come and gone and those unfortunate enough to feel her power have been left to pick up the pieces of their lives.

Surprisingly though, even in the midst of tragedy, the Twitterverse is abuzz with humor.

We are not saying we agree with the opinions shared by some of Twitter’s most unique and special, but it would be remiss of us not to share these.

Some were humorous…

Sadly, not everyone were so clued up on what exactly Dineo was which led to some interesting comments and posts on social media.

Some people thought Dineo was some kind of mythical mermaid… a video even popped up claiming that a dead mermaid – named Dineo – had washed up at a beach.

Some thought Dineo was a snake, oh, and she is female. Well, either way, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

We don’t really know what to make of this one. Sementhlee, Dineo was a very strong storm – not some kind of weird balloon.

Now, just to clarify what exactly Dineo was.

To put it as simply as possible, Dineo was a cyclone, also commonly referred to as a tropical storm. Tropical storms/cyclones occur when a system of winds rotating inwards to an area of low barometric pressure, with an anticlockwise (northern hemisphere) or clockwise (southern hemisphere) circulation.

A tropical storm/cyclone is a localised, very intense low-pressure wind system, forming over tropical oceans and with winds of hurricane force.

Now that we have that settled, hopefully at least, spread the word that Dineo the snake has gone back into hiding.
